CANNABISMYTER

Seneste version lanceret: 25. juni 2008. Flere kildeangivelser og flere nye afsnit.

Mit nuværende favoritcitat skal have en lidt mere prominent plads::

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive.
It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies.
The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated;
but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end
for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Ribemodellen. Stem imod!

"Prohibition cannot be enforced for the simple reason
that the majority of the American people do not want it enforced
and are resisting its enforcement. That being so, the orderly
thing to do under our form of government is to abolish a law
which cannot be enforced, a law which the people of the country
do not want enforced"
Borgmester Fiorello La Guardia, New York, 1937

"NORML believes there is nothing to be gained by exaggerating claims
of marijuana’s harms. On the contrary, by overstating marijuana’s potential
risk, America's policy-makers and law enforcement community undermine their
credibility and ability to effectively educate the public of the legitimate
harms associated with more dangerous drugs. In addition, exaggerating the
dangers associated with the responsible use of marijuana results in the
needless arrest of hundreds of thousands of good, productive citizens each
year in this country. We cannot remain silent and permit this taxpayer-funded
propaganda to occur without a challenge, and we encourage all concerned
citizens to refer to this report for the truth and science regarding
marijuana and marijuana policy.

It’s time to begin an honest public education campaign about the minimal
risks presented by marijuana. Let’s allow science, not rhetoric, to dictate
America's public policy regarding marijuana. As you will see, the facts
speak for themselves."
NORML - The 2005 NORML Truth Report

The use of drugs is not in itself an irresponsible act. Medical and scientific
uses serve important individual and social needs and are often essential to our
physical and mental well-being. Further, the use of drugs for pleasure or other
non-medical purposes is not inherently irresponsible; alcohol is widely used as
an acceptable part of social activities.

We do think the use of drugs is clearly irresponsible when it impedes the
individual's integration into the economic and social system. A preference for
individual productivity and contribution to social progress in a general sense
still undergirds the American value structure, and we emphasize the
policy-maker's duty to support this preference in a public policy judgment.

At the same time, in light of the emerging leisure ethic and the search for
individual meaning and fulfillment [...], we cannot divorce social policy from
the questions raised by the recreational use of drugs. Productivity and
recreation both have a place in the American ethical system. They are not
inconsistent unless the individual's use of leisure time inhibits his
productive role in society.
Marihuana: a signal of misunderstanding, 1972

LEAP is made up of current and former members of law enforcement
who believe the existing drug policies have failed in their intended
goals of addressing the problems of crime, drug abuse, addiction,
juvenile drug use, stopping the flow of illegal drugs into this country
and the internal sale and use of illegal drugs. By fighting a war on drugs
the government has increased the problems of society and made them far worse.
A system of regulation rather than prohibition is a less harmful, more ethical
and a more effective public policy.
        Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP)

Viewing the subject generally, it may be added that the moderate
use of these drugs is the rule, and that the excessive use is
comparatively exceptional. The moderate use practically produces
no ill effects. In all but the most exceptional cases, the
injury from habitual moderate use is not appreciable. The
excessive use may certainly be accepted as very injurious,
though it must be admitted that in many excessive consumers
the injury is not clearly marked. The injury done by the
excessive use is, however, confined almost exclusively to the
consumer himself; the effect on society is rarely appreciable.
It has been the most striking feature in this inquiry to find
how little the effects of hemp drugs have obtruded themselves
on observation.

"All research and successful drug policy show
That treatment should be increased,
And law enforcement decreased,
While abolishing mandatory minimum sentences"
        System of a Down

Anyway, no drug, not even alcohol, causes the fundamental ills of society.
If we're looking for the source of our troubles, we shouldn't test
people for drugs, we should test them for stupidity, ignorance,
greed and love of power.
        P. J. O'Rourke

Drug legalization is NOT to be construed as an approach to our drug problem.
Drug legalization is about our crime and violence problem. Once we legalize drugs
we gotta then buckle down and start dealing with our drug problem. And that's not
gonna be easy, but it's something we can do. 50% of the adult cigarette smokers
in this society have quit in the last 10 years. That's an amazing success story
when you're talking about the most addictive drug we know of: nicotine ...
How did we accomplish this wonderful success story? We educated!
